The Story of Evans & White
Evans & White has been a local, family-owned business from the beginning. Evan Evans and Frank White founded what was then called White Hardware in 1922. Evan Evans was an experienced hardware salesman, and Frank White was a respected St. Lawrence County farmer. The original store was located on Market Street in Potsdam where Josie's Pizzeria is located today. In 1963, the store partnered with True Value, forming and entirely new cooperative called White True Value. In 1966, the store moved to its present location, the old Montgomery Ward building on Fall Island. The third generation of Evans and Whites took over the store during the 1970's, and they still own and operate the store today. The store has seen many good years since 1922, and in 2004, Evans & White was happy to join forces with ACE Hardware. Today, Evans & White ACE is still a locally owned an operated Hardware store, dedicated to providing you with quality products and service.
